Brazil Waterfalls Formed approximately 150 million years ago, the area is composed by 275 waterfalls, forming an only front in time of full. The great falls are 19, just three on the Brazilian side (Floriano, Deodoro and Benjamin Constant they take the names of former presidents of Brazil). The disposition of the waterfalls provides the best view to the people who observe the scenery from the Brazilian side, especially because most of the falls are faced to Brazil. After a large curve and some rapids, the river runs to a rift created by the erosion to Brazil. After a large curve and some rapids, the river runs to a rift created by the erosion, forming the Devil's Throat. From there, the biggest part of the water follows in the main channel of the river. The Iguassu River in the upper part of the Waterfalls is 1.200 meters wide, being narrowed up to 65 meters in the canyon formed just after the falls. The extension of the Iguaçu Waterfalls is of 800 meters in the Brazilian side and 1.900 meters on the Argentinean side, resulting in a total width of 2.700 meters in a semi-circular form or horseshoe shape. Depending on the volume of water, the number of falls on the Iguaçu Waterfalls can change from 150 to 300. The height varies of 40 to 82 meters. The medium volume of the river is 1.500 m³ of water per second, decreasing to 300 m³ per second in the occasions of drought and increasing to 6.500 m³ per second or more during the periods of full. Macuco Fall - By Jeep and Boat The exciting trip starts at kilometer 23 of th "Rodovia das Cataratas" - the Cataratas Road - which leads from the city of "Foz do Iguassu" through the National Park and ends at the falls. Deep in the "Iguacu National Park", we are taken by open Jeeps through the dense jungle - the guide explains every single species of plants, and reaching a certain point after a 1,5 miles ride, we get out of the jeep and hike down a canyon to reach the "Macuco Fall", built by the "Sao Joao River", about 65 feet high. A few further steps down, at a bend of the Iguacu River, rubber-dinghies are waiting for the guests: The experienced pilots take us for a 3 miles ride up the river - passing a lot of difficult rapids - until they reach the huge main-front of the tumbling falls - guests feel the spray in their faces - up to 300 feet high, the waterfront conceals all sight.
